1. Stay safe, those of you in Sandy's path. I haven't said this, but your updates are uplifting.

2. NaNo is tomorrow and I haven't finished outlining. Pantsing is fun but can be a pain when it's 10 p.m. and you've only written 150 words and have no idea where to go next. Therefore, a complete outline is in order.

3. LJ is planning to cancel paid accounts? Whoa.

4. By now everybody would have been bored of PSY's Gangnam Style. Since I haven't (yet), I went and watched the version made by Korean MIT (as in Massachusetts Institute of Technology) students. Most of the kids in the vid are, not surprisingly, non-white. festivewind and I were floored at seeing Noam Chomsky in the vid. /possible mixed messages

Today being January 2, I must start keeping tabs on my wordcount for inkingitout. Which is to say, I didn't get to write yesterday.

Fullmetal Alchemist reread: Done about a week ago. I appreciate Olivier far more on this reading round, arguably because I can see her place in the bigger picture and her terrifying competence more clearly. It's also a pleasure, as usual, to see Arakawa raise the stakes and introduce the worst case scenario right then, right there, instead of two dozens chapters later.

♣ Chinese vermicelli (here we call it soun - soh-oon) and oyster sauce make a tasty combination.

♣ Auto-payment for LJ accounts are turned on without consent. Which is screwed-up, because what if your account is paid with someone else's credit card, e.g. you ask a friend to pay for you after you pay her in advance? That's what I used to do.

♣ Local TV station cuts out a scene where a husband hits her wife, but not the scene where she hits him back. (Context: reconciliation after eighteen years. Obvious series is obvious) Consideration for domestic violence victims?

♣ Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows: Moriarty's introduction into the story is a little clumsy and there's less of a unified feel about the plot compared to the first movie - scenes are strung together less cohesively. But I did enjoy it. I also enjoyed the expletives from the girls next to me and the audience's reaction as a whole.

Just as my paid LJ account is about to expire (on March 6, to be exact), LJ offers a two-week free paid account trial. I'll use it, and after two weeks I'll just...have to get used to the ads, I guess.

The Fury of the Phoenix card and bookmarks from Cindy Pon arrived today. That's a big card, just the right size to stick on the front of the hardcover edition.
