Writers friending meme

The most obvious quesion first. What do you usually write? I split my time between two sprawling literary epics dealing with QUILTBAG issues, classism and racism, and a lot of various high fantasy. And that one weird Western/post-apocalyptic hybrid, IDEK what that is.
Your current projects? Confidence (the hybrid), In the Heart (made family and QUILTBAG issues, among other things), Huge New Scary Story (racism and classism, among other things), and everything taking place in Lantica and surrounding countries (high fantasy). Oh, and Princess Louisa's story, whatever you call that. Thinly-disguised historical fantasy/romance novel? And I've been on a retold fairy tales kick lately.
Multichapter, one-shots, or both? Both. The one-shots get posted most often.
Why do you write? Because I... can't not? IDK, it's a weird way of putting it but it's true. I get all these stories in my head and writing them down is the only way to get them out.
Favorite authors? Tamora Pierce is my personal hero. So are Marie Brennan and Seanan McGuire (and evil twin). Also Mercedes Lackey, Jim Butcher, Paul Zarzyski, Lois McMaster Bujold, Patricia C. Wrede, Terry Pratchett, Scott Lynch, Andre Norton, and Neil Gaiman.
Favorite books? ASK ME WHO MY FAVORITE CHILD IS WHY DON'T YOU. Current favorites include Discount Armageddon, The Killer Angels, Elizabethan London, and Mistresses.
Favorite movies/TV series? Secondhand Lions, Persuasion, The Young Victoria, The Last Legion, and the Great Mouse Detective are my favorite movies. TV shows include 30 Rock, Battlestar Galactica, Doctor Who, the Sarah Jane Adventures, Firefly, the X-files, Middleman, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, Castle, and Criminal Minds. This is far from an exhaustive list.
Other hobbies/favorite pastimes? Nope, reading, writing, and watching movies are pretty much it.
Do you write fanfiction? If yes, for which fandoms? Not anymore. No time. I do still tell myself ridiculous fanficcy stories in the tub, though.
A sample of your writing, but only if you feel like it: I'm very fond of this very long retelling of The Snow Queen,, and also this rather shorter genus locii start.
Do you use beta readers? Are you willing to beta for someone else? I don't, usually, unless I'm planning to sell something. But I absolutely am willing to beta for someone else, given adequate time and few graduate school necessities.
What do you hope for by filling in this meme? I'm looking for new writing friends! I love to write and I love to talk about writing and bitch about characters. I hope to find kindred souls with whom to share such bitching.
Which journal should interested new friends add? This one, bookblather.
What do you usually post in your journal? Everything from complaining about real life to book reviews. Usually book reviews and complaining about real life.
Three things about you:
1. I have a magpie fascination with sparkly nail polish.
2. I have a white, fluffy, bitey, bicoloreyed cat whom I adore.
3. I am a baby librarian.
Anything else?
Nice to meet y'all!

The most obvious quesion first. What do you usually write?
Genre fiction, specifically soft scifi and fantasy. I also delve into horror and post-apocalyptic fare.
Your current projects?
My main projects are Universe Lost and Ghost Sight. The first is sci-fi, the second is urban fantasy. I'm also working on a post-apocalyptic/sci-fi world that is still fairly nebulous.
Multichapter, one-shots, or both?
Both, definitely. UL and GS are planned to be several novels, and the nebulous third party is as well. Probably. I pop out short stories every once in awhile as well.
Why do you write?
It's the best way to get the voices out of my head. Not hyperbole. My worlds and characters demand my attention to the exclusion of all else if I don't write them out.
Favorite authors?
My favorites change over time, but there are a few that stick with me.
For authors, always Tanya Huff and Ursula K. LeGuin. I consider these women idols.
Favorite books?
The Left Hand of Darkness; The Things They Carried
Favorite movies/TV series?
Fringe, seasons 1&2 only. After that it starts to lose the magic. The Big Bang Theory, despite its many problems, has always been able to make me laugh. Children of Men has stuck with me.
Other hobbies/favorite pastimes?
I'm slowly getting into hiking, and I've practiced photography off and on for years. The big one is videogames, which will easily eat up all of my time if I let it. (Let me tell you about the time I took a week off work to play Skyrim. And overheated my 360 for the first time ever during said week.)
Do you write fanfiction? If yes, for which fandoms?
Nah. I indulge in some Fallout: New Vegas gobbledegook, but I don't post it publicly.
A sample of your writing, but only if you feel like it:
Something from Ghost Sight:
The lights were on. If Cag was missing, Mitchell wouldn't have been able to sleep either.
It wasn't Elina who answered the door. The man was... vaguely familiar. A Galdren wizard's white-blond hair and blue eyes, taller and stockier than Mitchell. Someone he'd met only once before, maybe. Most of the community recognized each other, at least by face if not by name.
"Tam's brother," he said. "I need to talk to Elina." The man stood aside, allowing Mitchell and Cag inside.
"Mitchell," the man said, shaking his hand. "I'm glad to finally meet you. I'm Broker."
It took every ounce of will not to tear his hand away. Cag made a noise at the sudden influx of surprise-anger-distrust.
"That's not a good face," Broker said, offering a bland smile. A salesman's smile.
"You use the dead for entertainment. This is the best face you're going to get."
Broker snorted, put his hands on his hips. "The dead don't care. They're dead. You can't let yourself get pulled in by emotional echoes--"
"Don't tell me how to See. My mother was the best damn Seer in centuries, and she taught me everything. Having respect for those who've passed was lesson one." Lesson two, technically -- lesson one was bring a jacket.
"I have a wealth of respect for Moira Pathing, but that doesn't mean she was always right. Besides, this is the best way to prove to the humans that--"
"I don't need to prove a blessed thing to the mundanes."
Do you use beta readers? Are you willing to beta for someone else?
Not really. I don't know if I'd feel comfortable editing someone else's work.
What do you hope for by filling in this meme?
More writers in my circle is always a good thing!
Which journal should interested new friends add?
What do you usually post in your journal?
Occasionally writing -- usually prompt responses; photos I don't completely hate; political commentary; personal anecdotes; very short videogame reviews (usually "This is cool!" or "This is boring!", basically); interesting things I feel like sharing.
Three things about you:
1. My MBTI type is INTJ -- if those acronyms mean nothing to you, basically that means I'm introverted and listen to my rational side more than my emotional side. It also means I am very, very, very bad at people.
2. I don't comment very much, but I read all the entries on my reading page and all comments made to me. I have a problem where I think that what I want to say is either silly or unnecessary, so I don't say anything.
3. I'm queer. If you have a problem with that, crawl back into the hole you came out of, thanks.
Anything else?

The most obvious question first. What do you usually write? Urban/Contemporary fantasy with a healthy dose of slice-of-life.
Your current projects? Uhm...Oh boy. Okay, let me pick the top three:
And The Devil Makes Three - The daily going-ons of a psychic teashop owner, his tarot reading guardian angel, the angel of death who he employs, the reincarnated angel who is now a fantasy writer, his angelic brother who controls the world, his agent/boyfriend/roommate, that man's sister, the sister of the guardian angel and oh yeah, a mentally ill painter who hangs out there for fun.
A Bargain Must Be Made: A retelling of Tam Lin with a polyamorous triad, added adventures into Faerie, lots of bargains and the three people involved forever being changed. This is not a happy story, at best it has a neutral ending but everyone loses something in the end.
We Decide Who We Are - This is what happens when the days of the week, the months of the year, Love, Fate and other concepts become living, breathing creatures. They carve out lives for themselves, they make friends, they cope with life or, as it's been proven by some, find that they can't cope with it, all while spreading their influence over the world.
Multichapter, one-shots, or both? I used to be strictly one-shot but I am now growing into a multi-chapter kind of person.
Why do you write? Because stories talk to me. Them find me when I'm doing the most mundane things or when I'm working on something completely different. They find me and pounce on me and say "Hey! I'm gonna be hanging out with you for a while." Sometimes they are patient and stay for a while and sometimes they are anxious and get written out quickly but the point is, they find me and need me to tell them, so I do.
Favorite authors? Neil Gaiman, Seanan McGuire/Mira Grant, Shakespeare, Richard Siken, Jim Butcher
Favorite books? (at the moment) Written On The Body, Exquisite Corpse, Newsflesh trilogy, Curseworker books, Contents May Have Shifted, The Lovers Dictionary, The Chairs Are Where The People Are,
Favorite movies/TV series? Movies: Jacob's Ladder, Ocean's Eleven, Guys And Dolls, One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, Singin' In The Rain, Memento
TV: Whedonthings, Sanctuary, White Collar, Sherlock, Doctor Who, Dead Like Me, Dexter, Slings & Arrows, Criminal Minds, In Plain Sight, Life On Mars (UK), Sports Night
Other hobbies/favorite pastimes? Reading, plotting world domination, photography,. playing with dead things, watching movies of all kinds, taking notes on anything that interests me, tarot, religion, gender studies, baking, learning how to decorate candles, learning how to make incense, smacking my friends with stuffed fish.
Do you write fanfiction? If yes, for which fandoms? I do! White Collar, Sherlock, Sancutary and Cabin Pressure are my main fandoms right now.
A sample of your writing, but only if you feel like it: Look under the writing: fic (in comments or otherwise) tag
Do you use beta readers? Are you willing to beta for someone else? I do use betas and I will always accept more. As for me, I am better as a sounding board than a beta. I don't have the technical eye but I am happy to help you work through ideas and plotholes and stuff like that.
What do you hope for by filling in this meme? Just to get a few more writertypes floating around.
Which journal should interested new friends add? This one
What do you usually post in your journal? Writing/to-do lists/babbles on mental illness, belief systems and what other people in my head are doing.
Three things about you:
1.I am genderqueer, poly, kinky and on the asexual spectrum (still not sure where I fall there yet), preferring they/them/their pronouns. If any of this bugs you, piss off.
2. I am also have no use out of one of my eyes and am legally blind in the other.
3. I don't comment all the time but I do try to them. I also will occasionally make conversational topics in my journal ranging from kink, to confessions to other things that I have yet to do. I am probably doing one tonight, actually.
Anything else?
If I had my way, I would grow up to be the lovechild of Neil Gaiman and Seanan McGuire with S.J. Tucker and Catherynne M. Valente in for a little spice.

The most obvious question first. What do you usually write? I write character-driven secondary word low-fantasy fiction, almost always set within the same world. I write a lot of characters who exist in moral and social grey areas. I often write about characters who are queer, who have difficulty fitting into the expected norms of their societies, and about wanderers and outcasts.
Your current projects? I haven't been working on any big writing projects recently, just a small short story or two. I'm about to dive back into a big project again soon.
Multichapter, one-shots, or both? I usually write long things, but occasionally I can manage a short story.
Why do you write? I enjoy it. I feel like writing allows me to grow as a person and experience life more completely. If I don't write, I feel an increasingly comfortable urge to do so.
Favorite authors? Ursula Le Guin and Fritz Leiber
Favorite books? I love the Earthsea series, and the Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser short story series. I read a lot of fiction, though. Currently I'm reading Amanda Downum's The Kingdoms Of Dust.
Favorite movies/TV series? I love old black-and-white samurai movies. My favorite movies are probably Yojimbo and the Princess Bride. I'm really enjoying Legend of Korra on TV right now. I also read and enjoy lots of comics.
Other hobbies/favorite pastimes? I draw, paint, make things, take photos of wildflowers, tie decorative knots, and play the tin whistle (badly.) I am also a volunteer crew member on a 17th century tall ship.
Do you use beta readers? Are you willing to beta for someone else? I'm not sure how to answer this. I would probably be willing to critique and edit for someone who was willing to do the same for me, as long as I have the time.
What do you hope for by filling in this meme? I'm looking to make some new friends and meet some creative types.
What do you usually post in your journal? I post about sailing and being a crew member on a tall ship, book reviews, short story recommendations, interesting links, writing-related angst, and so on. I read regularly and comment on other peoples' journals.
Three things about you:
1. Besides writing, I also spend a lot of time drawing and painting. I draw and paint a lot of characters and scenes from my fiction.
2. I have three pet chinchillas.
3. On the ship, I am outranked by one of the ship cats.
Anything else? If I add you, I would like to actually talk to you and get to know you! I would love to make friends of any kind, but especially people who are active and who comment.

Date: 2012-05-03 11:03 pm (UTC)And... I have to ask because I'm incredibly
nosycurious, how does one get outranked by one of the ship cats? If you don't mind sharing. It sounds a fascinating situation. (And apparently 'fascinating' is my go-to word right now. This afternoon it was 'fantastic'...)I'm not usually this all-over-the-place, I promise!

The most obvious quesion first. What do you usually write? Mostly fanfic, but I'm trying to write more original fiction, just so I don't forget how to do that. Genre-wise, a mixture of dystopian, queer, sci-fi, steampunk, fantasy, and erotica/kink fic.
Your current projects? Fanfic-wise, two big bangs, AU Big Bang, and BDSM Big Bang, as well as one fic for queer_fest.
For
For BDSM Big Bang (at

I also have a 180k novel from the three last NaNoWriMos that needs to be edited. It's a complete first draft, but as I wrote it the wrong way round (ending, beginning, middle), it's a bit out of sorts and it will need to be printed out and beta'd and worked on for IDK how long. It's an RPF historical Georgian/Regency steampunk AU thing. I'll probably start calling for betas in December/January/February when I'm (hopefully) all done with uni and have more time to spend on it.
I don't really have any original fic projects at the moment. Lots of WIPs, but nothing urgent. I'm more sketching out ideas and seeing if any take off enough to turn into something decent. I've recently joined up at
Multichapter, one-shots, or both? I WRITE ALL THE THINGS. Though I don't often write chapterfic anymore since AO3 and DW can let me post a 37k fic IN ONE GO OMG. /drunk with power.
It sort of depends on the story. Sometimes, it's just one very long short story, but still a one-shot. Sometimes, it's part of a series, but because it's a distinct story arc in its own right, it's not really multi-chapter, more multi-part. Or something. And sometimes, yeah, I get chapters, too. It depends on how the story pans out. If there are natural breaks within the narrative that support chapters, I'm more likely to go with chapters.
Why do you write? I. Just. Can't. Stop. Writing. It's a problem, I know. I just have all these characters and all these stories in my head and they won't leave me alone until I write about them.
Favorite authors? Brian Jacques, Arthur C. Clarke, Garth Nix, Isobelle Carmody, Terry Pratchett, George Orwell, Ray Bradbury.
Favorite books? The Redwall series (Jacques), Old Kingdom Trilogy and Keys to the Kingdom (Nix), Obernewtyn Chronicles (Carmody), Jurassic Park (Michael Crichton), Frankenstien (Shelley), Preincarnate (Shaun Micallef).
Favorite movies? 2001: A Space Odyssey, Quadrophenia, Velvet Goldmine, Robin Hood: Men In Tights, Team America: World Police, Pink Floyd - The Wall, The Wicker Man (Original), Xanadu, A Clockwork Orange, The Road To El Dorado, Labyrinth, The Dark Crystal, Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead, Being John Malkovich, The 36th Chamber of Shaolin, The Eagle, The Lion King II: Simba's Pride, The Italian Job (Original).
Favorite TV series? Spicks & Specks, The Glass House, Gruen Transfer/Planet/Nation, CNNNN, The Chaser Decides/Election Chaser, Double The Fist, The Micallef P(r)ogram(me), Wilfred (Aus), Ladies of Letters, Red Dwarf, Spaced, The Thick of It, Yes Minister, Mock The Week, Peep Show, The Adventures of Lano and Woodley, Rockwiz, Simon Schama: A History of Britain, Coast, Laid, The League of Gentlemen, Psychoville, rage, John Safran's Music Jamboree, Talkin' 'bout Your Generation (TAYG), Miranda, Whitechapel, Louie Theroux, The Damnation of Harvey McHugh, The Prisoner (1967), Beauty and the Geek (AU/US), Hungry Beast, Pizza, Drawn Together, Danger 5, The Joy of Sets.
Other hobbies/favorite pastimes? I'm currently working my way through Pokémon Crystal, and every now and then fit in a game of Age of Empires III. I also draw, attempt to make things with clay, and rearrange my room every now and then. I listen to music. I collect vinyl records, coins, and other assorted things. I read tarot and my Goddess Oracle deck. I read books. Watch TV and DVDs. Do all sorts of other not-that-interesting things.
I'm interested in web design and graphics and such. I'm currently teaching myself HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript when I've got a few spare minutes, and I also want to learn Python and Perl properly, but not til I've got the time to dedicate to them. Perhaps next year when I'm done with uni.
Do you write fanfiction? If yes, for which fandoms? I write for a selection of mainly obscure RPF fandoms, mainly bands and comedians. Main fandoms I write in are The Move, Electric Light Orchestra, The Traveling Wilburys, The Chaser, Australian Comedy, Australian Politics and TAYG.
A sample of your writing, but only if you feel like it: Latest piece of original fiction I wrote, and as a contrast, the last piece of fanfic I posted, for better or worse.
Do you use beta readers? Are you willing to beta for someone else? Yeah, but mainly for big bangs and queer_fest, or for any long fic I think could do with some outside help. I don't have a single beta I always use though. I kind of just do a shout out and someone volunteers. I seem to have a knack for finding the right beta for the fic I'm working on, so yes.
I'm willing to beta for other people, sure, though I don't do it very often. For fanfic, I can't do canon betaing though, as mostly no one writes for the fandoms I know the most about, but I can do a decent spelling/grammar/general plot sort of beta, if that's all you need. I'm good for people who don't have/need fandom specific betas. I'm also willing to read over original fiction, too, should you need it.
What do you hope for by filling in this meme? You can never have too many writers in your circles. <3
Which journal should interested new friends add?
What do you usually post in your journal? Pagan things, university/RL updates, fandom stuff, fanfic and original writing stuff, memes, various and sundry. It's a bit random. More heavily weighed towards pagan stuff atm, but I've been slack in updating lately, so at the very least I won't spam you with stuff.
Three things about you:
1. I'm genderqueer, kinky, poly, and pansexual. Not currently seeing anyone. Forgotten how to date. Bit freaked out by it. Not that interested anyway.
2. I'm Pagan. A mixture of reconstructionist stuff (Greek, Roman, and Egyptian), witchcraft, and a bunch of other stuff. /eclecticism.
3. I like cats, crocodiles, and dinosaurs. Yeah! :D
Anything else? This is pretty much how I feel right now:

The most obvious question first. What do you usually write? Fantasy and science fiction. Or "mainstream" with fantasy or science fiction elements. Whatever I'm writing, there's probably going to be weird stuff in there.
Your current projects? Hahaha. Too many to list here. My main projects:
The Myrrosta, a fantasy trilogy about a prophecy that just gets misunderstood and misinterpreted by everybody, and the man who is at the center of it all.
Unusual Florida, about three families who experience some really strange stuff one summer, and how the consequences of that affects them years down the line.
The Eighth Saimar, which has a runaway princess, a civil war over magic, and an invasion led by a scribe whose ambitions far outweigh his common sense.
David Cleaner, about a guy who escapes his crapsack world by fleeing to a parallel universe, and the stuff that happens to him.
Multichapter, one-shots, or both? Everything I listed above is multichapter. I also write one-shots that take place in those worlds, mostly to help me learn more about the characters. Occasionally I write a one-shot that's just supposed to stand by itself.
Why do you write? Because it would be weird not to. I have literally been writing since I learned how to do it, little stories with simple language and illustrations back then. I cannot remember a time when I didn't write. It's just part of my fabric.
Favorite authors? Ursula K. LeGuin, Neil Gaiman, Stephen King, Margaret Atwood. Usually whoever I'm reading if I enjoy their stuff. I go through phases.
Favorite books? See works by the above authors. Also, I'm way into A Song of Ice and Fire right now, which I only mention because I avoided reading it for so long based on anti-recs from friends. There are so many books I've liked over the years it's impossible to make a list.
Favorite movies/TV series? Not a huge movie watcher, but I love TV. Current favorites are Game of Thrones, Once Upon a Time, Doctor Who, Fringe, Community, Awake, Grimm, Psych, and Criminal Minds. Past favorites include The X-Files, all the Stargates, Lost, House, Heroes, and Pushing Daisies.
Other hobbies/favorite pastimes? Other than reading and writing? Hiking, bike riding, martial arts, Sims, photography.
Do you write fanfiction? If yes, for which fandoms? I used to, mostly for Stargate and Doctor Who. I haven't written anything new in nearly two years, though. I've always written original fic, and fanfic was just something I dabbled in a little bit for a couple years.
A sample of your writing, but only if you feel like it: My writing comm is
Do you use beta readers? Are you willing to beta for someone else? I only use them for something I'm serious about, like novels I sort of intend to maybe try to get published someday (writing is much more a hobby for me rather than something I'm too concerned about making money from). I like to beta for other people, though only for original fic.
What do you hope for by filling in this meme? I hope to find more writers on DW, more people who understand the frustrations and joys of writing.
Which journal should interested new friends add? This one,
What do you usually post in your journal? Musings, real life stuff, sometimes TV/book reviews, things I find interesting, writing updates.
Three things about you:
1. I hate filling these out, because I never know if I'm being too boring or trying too hard or what. In other words, I kind of fail at social stuff and I lurk a lot.
2. I'm a molecular biologist working for a biotech company.
3. I have less than zero patience for pretension and snobbery, especially when it comes to matters of personal taste. If you're the type to judge people for the books, movies, clothes, music, etc. they like, you can just keep right on moving past my journal.

The most obvious question first. What do you usually write? Specultive fiction of all kinds. The novels I'm working on right now are steampunk-mystery, space opera, and superhero, respectively, and I've had high fantasy and fairy tale short stories published. The novels are mostly YA, with some adult and children's.
Your current projects? See above, re: genres.
Skywatch is my finished-getting-ready-to-shop middlegrade steampunk mystery set in a city in the sky.
Horizons is a space-set sci-fi that's basically the YA novel equivalent of a disaster movie, with unlikely genetic modifications and space sickness.
Moxie is my YA superhero series, which I've been building slowly for years (her universe is huge) and has been picking up momentum lately.
Multichapter, one-shots, or both? Both. My love is longform writing--novels, comic book series, even tv series, though I haven't tried my hand at that yet. But I write short stories for ideas that won't go away, and to get my name out there and have publishing credits on an agent query letter.
Why do you write? I love it. It makes everything worth it.
Favorite authors? Right now I'm on a Seanan Mcguire/Mira Grant kick, along with perrenial favorites like Tamora Pierce, Tanya Huff, Patricia Briggs, Terry Prachett, and Lois McMaster Bujold.
Favorite books? Feed, by Mira Grant. Just--it's amazing. It hurt my brain and made my love it and then twisted everything around. It's zombies, blogging, conspiracies, and snark, with a healthy dose of epidemiology and social commentary. I love it to a possibly unhealthy degree (and the final book in the trilogy comes out in a month eee!!).
Also The Protector of the Small quartet, and Joust, and Bunnicula, and--well, lots and lots of others.
Favorite movies/TV series? Let's say Buffy and the original My Little Pony (FIM is fun, but I grew up completely in love with all these pony girls who could sing and defeat evil and make friends with anybody who wasn't completely irredeemable).
Other hobbies/favorite pastimes? I so don't have time for anything but reading and writing. I hike and bike occasionally? And recently learned to crochet?
Do you write fanfiction? If yes, for which fandoms? Use to, but I only have so many spoons, and they all got devoted to my orignal writing ambitions. That said, I do Yuletide every year, because I love it.
A sample of your writing, but only if you feel like it: Um, I don't have anything online YET, but I will be published on Daily Science Fiction (free onlnie SFF mag) in the first week of June! Or if you get the e-mail, on May 30th.
Do you use beta readers? Are you willing to beta for someone else? Yes, always. The outside opinion is so important. I'm always looking for fellow writers to exchange with! I'll edit your story/novel if you'll edit mine!
What do you hope for by filling in this meme? To meet new writers. I love talking about writing, and finding other writers, and maybe finding a new beta or two (reciprocity assumed, of course!).
Which journal should interested new friends add? This one, anthimeria.
What do you usually post in your journal? Writing updates, process rambling, reviews of books I read, events I go to, movies I watch, etc. I'm all about the writing.
Three things about you:
1. I think rats make great pets.
2. I'm queer and a woman and always interested in nonstandard viewpoints--basically, I am tired of stories about middle/upper-class white het able-bodied males, and would like something new now, thanks.
3. I collect quotes.
Anything else?
I try not to edit entries after they've been up for more than a week (and if I do, I note it), even if I notice egregious grammar and spelling errors. So I apologize if you go through my entries and run into terrible copyediting.

When the companion seen the young creature before him he was smitten with her green shiny skin, her long flowing forest green hair, her luminous crystalline wings and her deep brown eyes. As they began to interact with each they found that they were a perfect compliment to each other. Her knowledge of how to ride him in just the right way seemed to make him feel powerful and brave. Together they were completed in a way that was perfect for both of them. '
I am so new I don't even know what that is, but I would assume its someone that reads it and is good about telling you if its messed up. I use my partner.

Well I am trying to take little moments and write about my experiences with nature, since that is where most of my writing seems to flow. So it will be otherkin and mystical type experiences with nature, is the best description. I also write about the house I live in.

1. GenderQueer

The most obvious question first. What do you usually write? Urban/contemporary & dark fantasy, horror, and a bit of sf. (It's been a while on the last one, though.)
Your current projects? Two related long form things that I've been poking away at for.ev.er. (largely because I keep writing things for them that have nothing to do with the main narrative, *facehands*); an urban fantasy case-focused series thing with a nearly all-queer all-female ensemble (still in the development/testing the waters stage); an unnecessarily long (...well, for me) semi-plotty fanfic that I am never going to finish omg.
Multichapter, one-shots, or both? Both, although I am really, really bad at actually finishing the multichapter ones. XD;
Why do you write? It's pretty much my No. #1 happy place (which you wouldn't believe from how much time I spend avoiding it, ahaha). And the obvious having things in my head that need out bit.
Favorite authors? / Favorite books? Skipping due to latter-year reading fail, sob.
Favorite movies/TV series? Movie-wise, Hot Fuzz holds the official Favourite Forever OMG throne; beyond that any list of favourites would have to be about a hundred items long, so, uh. TV favourites, sticking to current ones only, include Lost Girl (~*SHOW OF MY HEART*~), Doctor Who, Fringe, Psych, MythBusters. (Also, I'm having a bit of a nostalgic MST3K resurgence right now.)
If I'm really, really honest, though, my all-time favourite tv show is probably Nicktoon The Angry Beavers. I HAVE A BIT OF A CARTOON THING.
Other hobbies/favorite pastimes? Photography, trudging about nature, spending way too much time on casual gaming. Those are the main ones.
Do you write fanfiction? If yes, for which fandoms? I... kind of accidentally started to last year, haha. For Lost Girl, because that show is my FANDOM KRYPTONITE, seriously.
A sample of your writing, but only if you feel like it: My main stuff ends up under the 'text' tag at my writing babble journal -- although the only public stuff so far is vignettes and short excerpts. The fanfic can be found at the AO3.
Do you use beta readers? Are you willing to beta for someone else? In theory I am ALL FOR using beta readers, but in practice I haven't had the opportunity yet. I'm kind of awful at the thoughtful, constructive feedback thing myself (and am NO good with the more advanced, big picture stuff), but I'd certainly be willing to give it a shot, given available time and energy.
What do you hope for by filling in this meme? Basically, I'm looking to expand my circle. It's feeling a lot smaller since I've been spending less and less time at lj, heh.
Which journal should interested new friends add?
What do you usually post in your journal? Loads and loads of music-related stuff, misc fannish stuff, the occasional recipe, random picspam. (And just because I have a dedicated journal for the writing stuff, that doesn't stop me from going on about it in the main journal as well, heh.) Also, er, if you dislike frequent lapses into allcaps and keymashing, and deliberate abuse of the English language for comic effect, well... there's a fair bit of that, yeah. *snerk*
Three things about you:
1. For a writer, I'm kind of bad at that whole putting my thoughts into words business. (Aka see: the main reason I rarely make long posts, ahahaha.)
2. I have limited social spoons, but really enjoy interacting with people when I have the energy for it.
3. I am extremely into bugs, as a photographer. Flies and micromoths are my big obsessions, and apparently getting a macro lens (read: being finally able to get good pictures of them) is about to add the local spider population to my particular fascinations. (Note: no risk of sudden uncut spider pictures, though, just to say. The bugphobic might wanna stay away from my photoblog on Tumblr, on the other hand. XD;)
Anything else? More info (particularly as pertains to fannish stuff) can be found in my profile/interests and my sticky post, if any of the above piques your curiosity.

The most obvious question first. What do you usually write? Fanfiction! Lots of slice-of-life, lots of crossovers, lots of gen, and an awful lot of what might be put under the 'supernatural' genre if I didn't tend to side-eye that genre like a mofo. More accurately: stories that need to exist but don't.
Your current projects? A Harry Potter/Utena crossover, a Mai Is The Fire Lord A:TLA series, a Narnia/Echo Bazaar crossover, an Everyone Is Girls Katekyo Hitman Reborn series, and an original novel-ish thing that is basically the embodiment of all my genderqueer ladies' man fashionista gourmet dreams.
Multichapter, one-shots, or both? Usually one-shots, and even more usually long drawn-out series of one-shots. I've tried to write actual chaptered fics, and I just can't do it.
Why do you write? Here is where everyone says "I can't not write!" Well, I certainly can and often want to, because writing is kind of a pain in the ass, but I keep coming up with things that need to exist—and then they don't, so I have to make them.
Favorite authors? DON'T ASK ME THIS. Well, okay, when it comes to actual written fiction I have to mention Diana Wynne Jones and Laurence Yep and Orhan Pamuk and and Nnedi Okorafor and
Favorite books? This is actually easier! The Twelve Kingdoms/Juuni Kokki series, Holly Black's White Cat, Diana Wynne Jones' Year of the Griffin, Walter Moers' City of Dreaming Books, Terry Pratchett's Thud!. (I'm assuming we're not counting manga, fanfic, and nonfiction here, or this would be about twenty times longer.)
Favorite movies/TV series? Shoujo Kakumei Utena, for always and ever. Avatar: The Last Airbender, Legend of Korra, every Satoshi Kon movie ever, Sakamichi no Apollon, St Trinian's, Fullmetal Alchemist (manga only), Sailor Moon (manga + PGSM only), Princess Tutu, Samurai Champloo, Cowboy Bebop, Tokyo Story.
Other hobbies/favorite pastimes? Reading, tumblr, languages (so far only Japanese and Mandarin Chinese), knitting, playing the violin, fashion, nail polish, and occasional photography.
Do you write fanfiction? If yes, for which fandoms? Recently: Shoujo Kakumei Utena, Harry Potter, Fullmetal Alchemist, Katekyo Hitman Reborn, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Legend of Korra, Natsume Yuujinchou, Echo Bazaar, and an obscure Japanese New Wave film by the title of Kyounetsu no Kisetsu aka The Warped Ones.
A sample of your writing, but only if you feel like it: [...] jazz as some kind of disease sweeping though city streets, like a bad case of flu. Newspaper headlines: 20% OF POPULATION LAID UP WITH BAD CASE OF JAZZ and TRUMPETS: CAUSE OF INFECTION? or BREAKTHROUGH ON 'JAZZ' EPIDEMIC, SAY SCIENTISTS.
Do you use beta readers? Are you willing to beta for someone else? I feel like I don't usually write anything long enough to ask anyone to beta it, but I love talking out potential plot/background things with people. At the moment, I'm only really willing to beta for close friends or people whose style I'm quite familiar with.
What do you hope for by filling in this meme? Writing friends! More specifically, people to have long discussions with about whatever interesting things we've come up with but don't have a solid idea of yet.
Which journal should interested new friends add? This one!
What do you usually post in your journal? Fandom things and meta things and writing things, often all of which are the same. Occasionally there will be a post about school or family, but my non-fandom life is not terribly interesting so I don't write about it much.
Three things about you:
1. Genderqueer!
2. I love female characters. Love love love them; anything that shafts or stereotypes its female characters is getting a hell of a side-eye from me, and probably quite a lot of anger as well. Girls don't need to be pretty or not be pretty or dress a certain way, or be 'masculine' or 'feminine', a'ight? It's all cool.
3. I am incredibly perfect, good-looking, and well-dresssed at all times, and anything you may hear to the contrary is an awful filthy lie.
Anything else?
...nah, I think we're good. Unless anyone wants to recommend me some swing jazz, that is. (In that case, we're EXCELLENT.)

The most obvious question first. What do you usually write? Historical fiction, young adult, and family sagas are where most of my stories would fit I think.
Your current projects? The Mondian Chronicles, Ashwood Girls, various fanfiction drabbles.
Multichapter, one-shots, or both? Both. I've done multichapter stories, but I usually post one-shots that are connected in the same series.
Why do you write? It's a habit. I've done as long as I remember. To me once I write something out, it makes the characters realer if that makes sense.
Favorite authors? Charlotte Bronte, George R. R. Martin, Kate Brian, J.K. Rowling, Jane Austen, Eloisa James
Favorite books? Jane Eyre, A Storm of Swords, the Harry Potter series, Pride and Prejudice, Persuasion, Romeo and Juliet and White Oleander
Favorite movies/TV series? Moves: Revenge of the Sith, Henry VIII, The Duchess. TV: Gossip Girl, Game of Thrones, True Blood, Boardwalk Empire, various reality TV shows
Other hobbies/favorite pastimes? Reading primarily. I do a lot of arts and crafts. I like sewing and I love to crochet. I'm learning how to knit, though I get frustrated with. I also make graphics!
Do you write fanfiction? If yes, for which fandoms? Yes I've written for Gossip Girl the most, then Bleach, and Harry Potter. There are other shows I'd like to write for, but I need to get the feel of the characters.
A sample of your writing, but only if you feel like it: I just wrote this for a land comm over on LJ.
Do you use beta readers? Are you willing to beta for someone else? I use beta readers for my bigger fanfiction projects. I wouldn't mind betaing for someone else, but I don't know how good I'd be. I tend to notice grammar mistakes and some spelling mistakes. I used to be a lot better, but since I've been out of school, I've gotten rusty haha.
What do you hope for by filling in this meme? I'd love to find more writer friends. I love to talk about writing and read other people stories. It inspires me.
Which journal should interested new friends add?
What do you usually post in your journal? Literally everything. It's mostly about my personal life, but I post book reviews and other public posts. There's a little fandom in there, discussions that I find interesting. I use it for everything haha.
Three things about you:
1. I don't like watermelon
2. I love chicken breasts. Nom nom!
3. I'm teaching myself French. It's going slow, but I'm learning new things.
Anything else? Nope!

The most obvious question first. What do you usually write? It's a toss-up between high fantasy and something akin to espionage/police procedurals. They're usually epics with a hell of a lot of character development and worldbuilding involved.
Your current projects? Anchor (the high fantasy), and Phantasmagoria (the espionage/procedural hybrid-ish thing), with the odd one-shot in either verse/other 'verses entirely, and a bit of fanfiction when my muse cooperates.
Multichapter, one-shots, or both? Both!
Why do you write? Because it's sort of like breathing? It's automatic; it's just there, and it keeps me sane.
Favorite authors? Tolkien; David & Leigh Eddings; Alison Croggon; Neil Gaiman; Anne Bishop; Salman Rushdie; John Le Carre; Virginia Woolf; George R.R. Martin; Patrick Rothfuss; John Gardner; David Guterson; Vladimir Nabokov; Fyodor Dostoevsky; Gregory Maguire; Isak Dinesin; Ross Macdonald.
Favorite books? ... Do you have three years for the list? Tolkien, Croggon, Eddings, Gaiman, and Bishop will always be on that list--pretty much anything they've ever written, for different reasons each. Current/new favourites include Kingkiller Chronicles, A Song of Ice and Fire, Rachel Maddow's Drift, John Klima's Happily Ever After anthology, and Merchants of Doubt.
Favorite movies/TV series? I can never place favourite films, mostly because I so rarely watch them--though Tangled amused me to no end. Television I get to a little more frequently, though usually in bursts. Includes, but is not limited to: Sherlock; Criminal Minds; House; White Collar; Suits; Firefly/Serenity; Torchwood; Jeeves & Wooster; The Big Bang Theory; Castle; NCIS; NCIS: LA; Flashpoint; Fringe; Game of Thrones/ASOIAF; West Wing; Studio 60; Sports Night.
Other hobbies/favorite pastimes? Figure skating, horseback riding (twelve-year hunter/jumpers veteran), tactical firearms, hand-to-hand combat, calligraphy, graphic design, linguistics.
Do you write fanfiction? If yes, for which fandoms? On occasion, though much less rarely than I used to, and mostly by request--these days, that's mostly in Criminal Minds.
A sample of your writing, but only if you feel like it: This is the only public piece (which is locked to
Do you use beta readers? Are you willing to beta for someone else? Not unless I'm prepping a piece for publication. But my other job is as an editor, so that frequently turns into spontaneous beta-reading for other people.
What do you hope for by filling in this meme? New people! There can never be too many fellow writers with whom one can commiserate about characters running off with one's plots. :P If we share other interests, bonus!
Which journal should interested new friends add? This one.
What do you usually post in your journal? Everything: real life and all that entails, my writing and its problematic characters, music, books, television, and any other things that come to mind.
Three things about you:
1. I spend a lot of time arguing with and being poked by doctors; my descriptions are not graphic, but if this bothers/squicks you, consider this fair warning.
2. I am a recreational shooter and work in law enforcement; ergo, firearms and other aspects of self-defence are frequent topics. Discussion is welcome, but flaming is not, and if you have a problem with any of this I don't recommend you add me.
3. I'm a student of forensic psychology, ethics, and english literature. With two horses and a cat. If you try to think too much about how these things go together, it mostly doesn't work. ;)
Anything else?
I'm currently on a bit of a semi-hiatus for another few weeks (uni student; end of the semester), so I might be unusually quiet right at the start. If that doesn't bother you and you're willing to give me a few weeks' leeway to actually get to know you, awesome! Welcome to the circus*. :)
*For my own peace of mind, if you add me, please drop me a line somewhere--here, via PM, on my friends-only post--so I know you're not a stalker. ;)

The most obvious question first. What do you usually write? Fanfiction, though I also have original stuff on the side that are mostly fantasy and sci-fi.
Your current projects? Quite a few *_*
I have this one Transformers AU where the Decepticons win the war and the Autobots are gladiators and all that which I should update.
For Homestuck, I have a Spades Slick Is Suddenly Part Of The Felt to RP and work on, a Felt Play Sburb Backstory, a Transformers/Homestuck crossover, an AU where the Sburb Beta Session Collides With Stabdads Literally, a Minecraft/Intermission crossover, and a Three Kingdoms Era Homestuck AU.
I also have this Shin Megami Tensei II-centered fic that would crossover the rest of the series too. Also a bunch of Final Fantasy IV fics I need to work on such as one where Anna survives, not Edward.
All this on top of my original fiction series of eight books. I'm also sure I still have a lot more I'm forgetting about here.
Multichapter, one-shots, or both? Both, it depends on the story, though lately it's been mostly one-shots.
Why do you write? For fun, mostly, and because I love words and stories and there's so many things in my head that I just have to get all that out somehow.
Favorite authors? It's probably not a good thing that I don't actually have a list of favorite authors and that the first name that popped into my head was Andrew Hussie. Not. A. Good. Thing.
Favorite books? The Castings Trilogy, by Pamela Freeman. I grew up with Harry Potter so that's special to me still. Romance of the Three Kingdoms too...and...it's actually been a while since I read anything oops I need to read more.
Favorite movies/TV series? Movie-wise, Transformers, of course! Also I'm very fond of Titanic, Real Steel, Red Cliff and Watchmen.
Lately I've been watching Suits whenever I can catch it. Anime I'm fond of include Battle B-daman, Fullmetal Alchemist (Brotherhood), Code Geass and Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni. I also love Beast Wars and Transformers Prime.
Other hobbies/favorite pastimes? Homestuck.
No wait, I also play video games like the Shin Megami Tensei series (also Persona), Dragon Age, Final Fantasy, and Minecraft. I also roleplay a lot on tumblr and facebook. Uhh other things I do, TV Tropes I guess.
Do you write fanfiction? If yes, for which fandoms? Oh yes I do. Fandoms are Battle B-daman, Homestuck, Transformers, and Final Fantasy (I, II, IV -VII, Dissidia).
A sample of your writing, but only if you feel like it: Well this is the last fanfic I posted (Homestuck, Intermission, sadstuck), and for something original there's this guy's journal.
Do you use beta readers? Are you willing to beta for someone else? I've never worked up the courage to ask anyone to beta for me, and I get the feeling I'll have a hard time working with a beta. So yeah, no, I don't use betas, nor am I willing really to beta for someone else beyond the brainstorming/planning/bunny bouncing part.
What do you hope for by filling in this meme? Errrm, more writer friends who'll understand what it's like? I have like very few friends who are into writing too, and even less who use dreamwidth/whom I met on dreamwidth (does this sentence make sense).
Which journal should interested new friends add? This one, yep.
What do you usually post in your journal? Fanfic and writing updates, but I'm trying to talk more which hasn't worked so far.
Three things about you:
1. My horrible grammar when talking in OOC things like this is nothing like the pretty-strict grammar I use in actual writing and roleplaying, promise.
2. I only just graduated from high school in March so yeah I'll be entering an art college with a scholarship come May.
3. I also art quite a bit.
Anything else?

The most obvious question first. What do you usually write? Usually fantasy of some sort. I've also got a Marvel AU/Bleach crossover going on my personal journal.
Your current projects? Script Frenzy - One Wing Angel; Bleach/Marvel AU crossover; editing: Dragon Blooded.
Multichapter, one-shots, or both? Yes. Most of what I'm doing now is multichapter, though.
Why do you write? Because I have these voices in my head and if I don't give them voice somewhere, I'll, honestly, go crazier than I am now.
Favorite authors? Gaiman, Wrede, Carl Benjamin, Walter Farley... just a few.
Favorite books? The Black Stallion books; The Seven Brothers trilogy; more than a few others.
Favorite movies/TV series? Criminal Minds, Lie to Me, Spartacus... to name a few. Movies? I tend toward epics. So, yeah, I've probably seen and loved all of them.
Other hobbies/favorite pastimes? Cross stitching, knitting, reading, and I'm trying to get back into baking.
Do you write fanfiction? If yes, for which fandoms? Marvel, mostly. Though I've done an SPN/Criminal Minds cross over, and occasionally, Bleach.
A sample of your writing, but only if you feel like it: Under the fanfiction tag at my IJ or under any of the origfic_bingo tags on this journal.
Do you use beta readers? Are you willing to beta for someone else? I usually don't, unless I'm posting somewhere other than my journal, or trying to edit something into salable shape. I am willing to beta for someone if they ask, though.
What do you hope for by filling in this meme? More writer-friends, more interesting people to talk to. Good discussion.
Which journal should interested new friends add? My creativity journal is this one. If you want into my private life, that's on IJ. Please ask before you add that one.
What do you usually post in your journal? Creativity updates in this one. Sometimes, bingo fills.
Three things about you:
1. I'm a mom. My eldest will be 18 this year.
2. I am a RPer.
3. I come from a huge family.
Anything else? Erm. Nope?

The most obvious question first. What do you usually write? Fantasy, primarily; mostly urban fantasy, but with some medieval-esque or lower-tech-level settings. I also have a couple of sci-fi settings and occasionally write things with no speculative element at all.
Your current projects? I have a bunch of settings that I'm writing short pieces in and building up: Extranormal Crimes, an urban fantasy series focusing on FBI investigators; The Wasteland, a post-apocalyptic fantasy setting in which the sudden destruction of infrastructure has revealed magical power in some people; Atash, a medieval-esque fantasy setting with witches and healers and a slightly odd political/inheritance system; Prison Planet, which is what it says on the tin, focusing on a group of twenty political prisoners; and another sci-fi setting with androids and overbuilt cities that doesn't have a name yet.
Multichapter, one-shots, or both? Both. I have specific novel/la series planned in Extranormal Crimes and the Wasteland, but the others are mostly just getting short fiction. I also recently posted a novella of Atash, Love As It Was Made to Be.
Why do you write? I don't know how not to.
Favorite authors? Holly Black, Neil Gaiman, Marion Zimmer Bradley, Francesca Lia Block, MeiLin Miranda, and Kristin Cashore seems to have just joined the list.
Favorite books? The Mists of Avalon; Tithe; Little, Big; Tam Lin; Violet and Claire.
Favorite movies/TV series? Movies: The Princess Bride, Moulin Rouge!, Inception, Empire Records, the Lord of the Rings movies. TV: Criminal Minds, NCIS, Fringe, Warehouse 13, Alphas.
Other hobbies/favorite pastimes? Knitting. Getting back into drawing/sketching and I swear I'll get back to spinning soon.
Do you write fanfiction? If yes, for which fandoms? I do! Fandoms I've written for: Harry Potter, Criminal Minds, NCIS, Warehouse 13, Alphas. Also, Tam Lin, for Yuletide. Oh, and the main reason I haven't written Fringe fic yet is that I still haven't seen all of S2.
A sample of your writing, but only if you feel like it: Hmm, I don't want to take up space with a whole piece, but all the original fiction I've posted at Dreamwidth is linked to in this entry.
Do you use beta readers? Are you willing to beta for someone else? Yes and yes! I'm good at catching typos and little details :D
What do you hope for by filling in this meme? More writer friends. Ideally, more people to comment on my fiction, because comments are very motivating, but also people who will post stuff (or send me stuff) for me to read.
Which journal should interested new friends add? This one,
What do you usually post in your journal? Original fiction, mostly. And I do a monthly post about the books I've read. (More friends to talk about books with would also be awesome.)
Three things about you:
1. I have a pet bunny named Fiver. He is extremely fluffy.
2. I type at 90+ WPM and have been told I sound like a machine gun.
3. I hate pants. I spend most of my time wearing ankle-length skirts, though I'm adding some shorter ones to my wardrobe.

The most obvious question first. What do you usually write?
Right now, romantic erotica of various genres, but mostly fantasy or country-inspired contemporary. (Don't judge me! I like pickup trucks.)
Your current projects?
The aforesaid erotica with pickup trucks, which is yet to be named. (I have trouble with names. I think it's my least favorite part of writing.) Also a few little snippets which I'm trying not to work on until I finish my main project, but which *will* keep running around my head.
Multichapter, one-shots, or both?
These days, mostly multichapter. Which is funny, because before when I used to write (my muse took a several year break and only returned to me recently) it was only ever one-shots, and short ones at that.
Why do you write?
Because there are all these stories and people and scenes and interactions filling up my head and wanting to be set down so they don't just dissolve into forgetfulness. But that's not the only reason--after all, those scenes and whatnot will never be so perfect on paper as they were playing out in my head. So, I admit, I write because I want to make money at it.
Favorite authors?
That's hard. A few: Jane Austin, Lois McMaster Bujold, Jennifer Crusie, Terry Pratchett, P.G. Wodehouse (especially Leave it to Psmith), Jerome K. Jerome, Janet Kagan, Donald E. Westlake, David Mitchell, and, um, that's all I can think of right now.
Favorite books?
Ack! This is even harder! Um, um, A Civil Campaign and Three Men in a Boat?
Favorite movies/TV series?
Firefly. Doctor Who (although I haven't watched in a few years, sadly!) Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Other hobbies/favorite pastimes?
Cooking, hiking, raising chickens, chasing after my two-year-old.
Do you write fanfiction? If yes, for which fandoms?
Nope.
A sample of your writing, but only if you feel like it:
Do you use beta readers? Are you willing to beta for someone else?
Yes! I would be happy to beta for others, and I am always looking for betas.
What do you hope for by filling in this meme?
Cool people with whom to talk about writing, books, and other wonderful things.
Which journal should interested new friends add?
This is my only one.
What do you usually post in your journal?
Not much, actually. Occasional musings on random things that happen to me.
Three things about you:
1. I was recently told I look exactly like "Irving Jones, the piano player", but when I got home and googled said musician I didn't find anything. This is faintly but lingeringly aggravating.
2. I like going barefoot whenever possible.
3. I like green beans a lot.
Anything else?
This is awesome, thank you for hosting it!

The most obvious question first. What do you usually write? I write a variety of fantasy and science fiction, often with LGB characters mixed in with the heteros, and often with aliens or fantastical creatures as well.
Your current projects? I'm completing the final edit of a fantasy novel titled The Sleeping Death, and working on a first draft of another fantasy named The Dreaming. I'm also toodling about with an idea for a new series, which I'm referring to as Harry Potter in Space with Aliens ;)
Multichapter, one-shots, or both? Generally novels, though I write some short stories as well. Nearly everything I write turns out epic.
Why do you write? I really don't have any choice. My brain is always buzzing with new ideas, and has been since I was something like five years old. I love exploring ideas, different possibilities, and the best way I've found to do that is through the written word.
Favorite authors? Terry Pratchett, Naomi Novik, Brandon Sanderson, Dan Wells, Isaac Asimov, and may more.
Favorite books? Too many to list. If I had to pick something to recommend, it's probably be Naomi Novik's Temeraire series.
Favorite movies/TV series? Gosh, I don't know. Baccano! possibly. Firefly? Supernatural? I have so many favourites.
Other hobbies/favorite pastimes? I play a lot of video games, especially jrpgs, when I'm not writing or reading. I also cosplay.
Do you write fanfiction? If yes, for which fandoms? I do, though I try to keep my fanfiction persona separate from this one. I am writing almost entirely Homestuck these days, but I have a huge backlist of fics from mostly anime and jrpg fandoms. If you're interested please PM and I'll link you to my AO3 account.
A sample of your writing, but only if you feel like it: Sure! This is the beginning of The Sleeping Death.
Mortis heard the banging, felt the swaying, even in her dreams. It angered her, and she hammered futilely against the interior of her prison. The impacts of her own fists echoed in her ears, assaulted her senses, and did nothing. Nothing.
Sleep tried to drag her down again and she prepared to surrender. Nothing she did mattered, and she would never escape. It was better to live in dreams.
But then she heard shouting, a "Be careful with that!" and there was a jolt that ran through the prison.
Then she sensed it: the tiniest of hairline fractures in the glass. It was too small to see, but for her, it was enough.
She burst from her imprisonment and rose into the air in a shower of glass, wings unfurling. There were humans all around her, men and women who wanted to put her back in the prison. She wouldn't let them. She wouldn't go back to that endless hell.
She spread her hands and the humans were falling, dying, their little lives snuffed out effortlessly. She felt nothing except the relief that they could not hurt her again.
Her feet touched the ground once more, when the last human lay dead on the floor. They lay all around her, like broken matchsticks and of just as little consequence. Glass sliced into her feet. Pain, strange and foreign and unpleasant, jolted through her body like little bolts of lightning.
She wanted to escape. Needed to hide, but she didn't know where to go. Where could she hide?
She stepped over one of the bodies.
The certainty she had felt was fading, subsumed by fear and memories of the endless sleep. She pressed her hands to her eyes, shuddering. Where could she go? Who was she running from? That didn't matter. What mattered was that she was running, and she was all alone in the world.
She straightened. She wasn't all alone. There was one person. He might be an enemy, but he was the only person in all the world whose face she could picture in her mind. Everything before that quickly became smothered in fog. If he was an enemy she would do...do something.
She would not go back to prison.
Death could find anyone. She stumbled out into the street, gavoxae tugging at her hair with their little hands, and savoxae wrapping their chill arms around her, toying with her skin.
She turned towards the place where she knew he could be found, and took flight.
Do you use beta readers? Are you willing to beta for someone else? I don't really use beta readers, but I'd be happy to beta for someone if I have time and they were willing to read and give me feedback as well.
What do you hope for by filling in this meme? Just looking for more friends to talk about writing with.
Which journal should interested new friends add? This one!
What do you usually post in your journal? Mostly I talk about my writing process and what I'm dealing with. I also do reviews of books I've read and podcasts I listen to.
Three things about you:
1. In real life, I'm a family law lawyer. (Actually, I'm an articling student, but in less than a month, I'll be a lawyer officially)
2. My wife is a professional seamstress and we have a cosplay-making sewing shop in our house
3. I have two cats, named Yuki and Yoru. Yuki has no teeth and is a little siamese princess, and Yoru is a big black tsundere boy who loves to cuddle.
Anything else?

The most obvious question first. What do you usually write?
Lately it's been mostly fanfic, but I've recently started a project to write more original fic and other stuff (which is this account). Oh, and I'm an academic, so I also write long boring articles for a living. My basic genre is literary fiction, set in the present, except that sometimes there are space lasers or ghosts.
Your current projects?
Multichapter, one-shots, or both?
Usually one shots, but I've written novel length before, and I'm about to start the serialized thing, so, you know, that.
Why do you write?
Because I want to figure people out. Because I like telling stories. Because human beings are fundamentally intersubjective and language is the means by which we cross the space between us.
Favorite authors?
Hanan al-Shaykh, Elizabeth George, Rabih Alameddine, Douglas Adams, Mohja Kahf.
Favorite books?
Reaper Man by Terry Prachett, What Came Before He Shot Her by Elizabeth George, a million others.
Favorite movies/TV series?
X-Files fan for life. Fringe is my fave thing on right now, and I have a demographically appropriate love for Doctor Who. Scandal, Hawaii 5-O, and Revenge are my weekly dose of crack.
Other hobbies/favorite pastimes?
I do cross stitch and needlepoint. I cook. I grade shitty papers. I chase my kid around.
Do you write fanfiction? If yes, for which fandoms?
I write mainly X-Files fic. No, it's not a dead fandom. Really.
A sample of your writing, but only if you feel like it:
Here's my most recent poem. I like it a lot. :)
Do you use beta readers? Are you willing to beta for someone else?
I sometimes use betas, especially for long stuff. I am a super shitty beta for others, though--I would love to offer, but I fear all involved will be disappointed.
What do you hope for by filling in this meme?
To meet people/obtain eyeballs to look at my stuff.
Which journal should interested new friends add?
What do you usually post in your journal?
Like I said, PNP is just for original fiction and poetry. My regular journal is a mix of fanworks, blathering about TV, and then locked posts about my family & my job. (Generally I like to get to know a person a while before I grant access, because I do talk about RL stuff, and this is very much a pseud.)
Three things about you:
1. Queer feminist socialist mom, married to ditto. Two cats. Walking stereotype there.
2. I'm an ex-urbanite currently living in the middle of nowhere, and this strongly influences how I think about the world.
3. Apart from writing, cooking and gardening probably occupy most of my creative time.
Anything else?
HELLO DREAMWIDTH.
HELLLLLLOOOOOOOOO. *g*

The most obvious question first. What do you usually write? Secondary world fantasy, although if you look at what I've actually posted on my journal "poetry" and "fairytale retellings" are pretty prominent too. I write about... whatever strikes me as interesting at the time, really.
Your current projects? Too many to count. I'm trying to poke my way through a couple of (unrelated) pieces that insist on being novella's (at least), but I'm holding them back until I've had a chance to finish and polish them at least once. I also have a romance story between a human girl and a swan maiden that I've promised people I'd write. I just haven't figured out how it wants to be told yet.
Multichapter, one-shots, or both? Both, though I write primarily one-shots.
Why do you write? I hate this question. So much. I write because I do. I have ridiculous amounts of trouble finding the words to write right now, but still.
Favorite authors? Oh, I don't do favourites, really. I find them hard to rank and, anyway, most of my favourites are unpublished people. But... Going on the basis "People whose work I will pick up without reading the blurb and who are actually published", I end up with Guy Gavriel Kay, Diana Wynne Jones and Anna Elliott. But I also really like Terry Pratchett, Marie Brennan, Cherie Priest, Catherynne Valente, Charles de Lint, Juliet Marillier, John Keats, Lord Byron, Susan Cooper, Ursula LeGuin...
Favorite books? Ahahaahahahahaahaahahahahaha! No. Just no. I'm not even going to try.
Favorite movies/TV series? Labyrinth, The Last Unicorn, Dungeons and Dragons (the tv show! Not the movie!), Princess Tutu, Slings and Arrows, Due South, Stargate: Atlantis, Castle, New Girl, Once upon a Time, Doctor Who... You know how I said I didn't do favourites? This is why. It gets long because I'm chronically unable to narrow my favourites down.
Other hobbies/favorite pastimes? Reading? Watching tv, playing RPGs, teaching English (yes, really), singing...
Do you write fanfiction? If yes, for which fandoms? Nope. Well, unless you count fairytale retellings. Those I do write.
A sample of your writing, but only if you feel like it: This is a story I'm still quite happy with, though I'm afraid I haven't been able to summarise it better than 'It contains a Phee'. I'm also quite happy with this poem which is a retelling/summary of The Goose Maid.
Do you use beta readers? Are you willing to beta for someone else? Yes and yes, but the latter is dependent on my schedule.
What do you hope for by filling in this meme? I hope to meet new friends to talk about writing with, same as most people here I'd assume. ^-^;;
Which journal should interested new friends add? This one: lynn_einin
What do you usually post in your journal? Some of my stories, rambling about writing and that stupid block, sometimes I ramble about the books I read or the games I play, but for now it's still largely about the writing.
Three things about you:
1. I don't like the smell of old books much. This is the first time I've ever admitted that, too.
2. I don't have a visual imagination at all.
3. Sometimes, I sing whatever melody and words in my head at the time just because I can. But I'm too self-conscious to do it as often as I might.
Anything else?
Nice to meet you!

The most obvious question first. What do you usually write?Fanfiction in Harry Potter, Star Wars, Star Trek, X-Men, Underworld and RPS fandoms. I also write original fic that tends to be dystopian but I’m not so confident when it comes to sharing that fic.
Your current projects?Aha where to start. I have a huge Harry Potter het big bang of which I have 0 words so far but a lot of plans for Harry and Pansy Parkinson~ Then I have an X-Men reverse bigbang that I am loving being part of because omg the art is so pretty! Then I have a HP next gen dark fic and many tables running around my fic comm. Unfinished.
Multichapter, one-shots, or both? Both! I do love writing multi-chaps but I have in the past run out of steam and had to drop them which makes me very sad so sometimes I feel one-shots are safer. I hate when an author stops updating an awesome fic. It makes me sad and I don’t want to cause that feeling in other people.
Why do you write? It is a hobby. I have always had a bit of a vivid imagination and I like playing around with ideas and words and scenarios. Especially ‘what ifs’ in fanfiction.
Favorite authors? This is hard because I don’t read a lot of fictional books. I am a historian and I read a lot of non-fiction on topics I find interesting in place of stories as such. Timothy Zahn, Tolkein, Rowling, Erich Maria Remarque,
Favorite books? All Quiet on the Western Front, Harry Potter series, Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, Timothy Zahn Star Wars trilogy, Au Revoir Les Enfants, L’étranger and a big pile of history books :D
Favorite movies/TV series?Alcatraz, Star Wars, Star Trek 09, The Princess Bride, Harry Potter, the Lord of the Rings, Pirates of the Caribbean, the Matrix, Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, X-Men films, La Vie en Rose, Downfall, The Lives of Others, Underworld series, Batman the Dark Knight series, the Bourne films, Sherlock Holmes, Invictus,
Other hobbies/favorite pastimes?watching F1, tennis or football, cross-stitching, painting things, making homemade cards, DS games, computer games, playing on the wii, reading,
Do you write fanfiction? If yes, for which fandoms?Yes. Harry Potter, Star Wars, Star Trek, Underworld and x-Men currently.
A sample of your writing, but only if you feel like it:(California being the village in Scotland, not the State in the US)
Finally reaching daylight, Caeleah allows herself to fall flat onto her stomach, forehead resting against the warm earth that had previously been her front lawn. Greedily, she takes in deep gasping breathes, filling her lungs with clear air after the smoky dust she has been trapped in before. Looking up she can see where the explosions from the bombs have burned the earth. What used to be the winding road that connected California to the rest of the county and civilisation was now a tangled mess of burning tarmac. The smell burns at Caeleah’s nose and she groans, rolling away from it out of sheer instinct, and hitting a doorframe before coming to a halt. Blinking at it through itching eyes, she realises it is the front door from Mrs Muir who lived five houses down. Purple and garish. Yet, here it was in Caehleah’s front garden. It makes her curious about the rest of Mrs Muir’s house and the rest of the village. There are groans whichever direction she turns in but she can’t make out words and doesn’t have the strength to help pull anyone free anyway. Instead, she grabs at the doorframe and somehow manages to pull herself to her feet with every muscle protesting as she does so. Noting her bloodied hands, she feels her arms until she locates a deep gash on her forearm that she had failed to notice before. It didn’t hurt, or at least it didn’t hurt enough to notice because, everything hurt.
Do you use beta readers? Are you willing to beta for someone else? Not if I can avoid it. I have only had experiences where they really want to change the flow of the fic until it doesn’t feel like I wrote it anymore and I hate that. I just want grammar and spelling~ And at times. Or I britpick for Harry Potter. That is fun
What do you hope for by filling in this meme? Friends that write...
Which journal should interested new friends add?Depends on what they are looking for I guess. My original fic is at
What do you usually post in your journal?Everything! Stuff about my personal life, fandom life, sports, random thoughts, questions I have cause I’m curious and far too many memes! :D Oh and once I get back into it I cross post my diabetic awareness photo blog.
Three things about you:
1. I have SAD and GAD so while spontaneously deciding that yes I will go meet that friend who just txt me after working up the courage to reply to the txt in the first place is not a big deal to you it it means the world to me. Respecting that is important.
2. I’m type 1 diabetic. This comes up a lot, sometimes good and sometimes bad, so pre-warning I guess >_<
3. I AM ACTUALLY VERY EXCITABLE AND CHEERFUL MOST OF THE TIME!
Anything else?♥

Do you use beta readers? Are you willing to beta for someone else?
At this moment I don't use beta readers... I'm posting things as they come out of my head. I usually don't start asking for betas unless I'm sure I want something to go to AO3 OR if it's for a big bang... Currently I only have betas for Ace Attorney and The Hunger Games. I will be looking for a beta for Willer Verse sometime in the fall, probably.
What do you hope for by filling in this meme? I'm
(a) networking
(b) I have a filter on my journal where I'm aiming to do various creativity 'exercises' like SARK's Make Your Creative Dreams Real and Julia Cameron's Artists Way among other things and just for writing check-ins and encouragement, so I'm looking for folks interested in following along there and/or participating (I have had this filter for a couple years and just haven't gotten around to using it -- I'd like to remedy that).
Which journal should interested new friends add?
What do you usually post in your journal? everything. real-life stuff, ranting, talking about my self-care toolbox, mental and health challenges, system-related stuff, memes, writings, doodles, graphics
Three things about you:
1. I identify as a natural plural system with some trigger based members.
2. I'm trying to build my confidence in writing since while I'm a frequent writer, I lack confidence in this aspect of my life.
3. I always read, but I rarely comment.
Anything else? I dont require you believe everything I write, but I expect that you at least respect that this is what is true for me.
